KCA was awarded the Bay County Repairs to Deer Point Lake Dam (CR 2321 over Deer Point Lake) D/B Project!
KCA, along with Contractor, Pneumatic Concrete CO, Inc., were recently awarded their first design-build (D/B) contract with Bay County, ranking a nearly 23-point spread over the opposing team. The project consists of the rehabilitation of the Deer Point Lake Dam/Bridge combination structure under a D/B procurement methodology. This Bay County bridge is the northernmost crossing of North Bay and Deer Point Lake, where freshwater streams meet the Gulf of Mexico and provides an important piece of the area’s emergency response evacuation system. The rehabilitation scope consists of temporary shoring design, replacement of pedestrian catwalk steel support, concrete repairs throughout both the highway and pedestrian structures, bridge deck sealing, deck expansion joint/header replacement, concrete pile repairs, and seawall repairs.
Additional efforts include utility coordination, coordination with emergency services and the school system, as well as working with local stakeholders in the vicinity of the bridge to phase construction to cause the least impact to surrounding businesses.
Special project initiatives included the use of component repair plans and specifications to address scope items requiring highway lane closures. This mitigated the impacts to local businesses that would be negatively impacted by closures during the peak season for sport fishing in the area of the dam and bridge.
Congrats to the entire project team including Sam Cullum, PE, Project Manager and several others from KCA departments. A big thanks to all the KCA team members who helped with the preparation of the presentation, and the marketing efforts that contributed to this win!
