E-Week 2023 (Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day): Sarah Wilson, PE
Sarah Wilson, PE, is a Senior Structures Engineer in KCA’s Tampa, FL office. She started with KCA in May 2011 and has been with the firm her entire career. She is also a mother to Allie (age 3).
Why did you decide to become an engineer?
I have always loved buildings, architecture, and travel. I originally pursued engineering inspired to make the world beautiful. From structures design, I pursued a masters and then fell into bridges. I still admire architecture, but I love seeing what we have designed be built and help people travel safely.
What does your daughter think you do at work?
My daughter knows that I “make bridges for cars.”
Describe how you inspire your daughter’s future or act as a role model for her.
With all things, including pretend play, I make sure that she knows that she can be whatever she wants to be. Whether that means a dinosaur, a princess, or a shop keeper, my goal is to encourage her to be curious, adventurous, and kind.
