KCA Wins I-75 Overpass Concept with Private Developer
Owner: Lakewood Ranch Development
KCA was selected by a private developer, Lakewood Ranch (LWR) Development, to design an extension of Lakewood Ranch Boulevard from the east side of I-75 to the west side by constructing a bridge over I-75, connecting to North Cattleman Road. The project is located just to the south of University Boulevard in Sarasota County near the new rowing lake. The facility will be a four-lane divided roadway with curb and gutter. Bike lanes and sidewalks may be incorporated.
LWR Development will contribute approximately $7 million towards the project, and Sarasota County will contribute the remainder. The County will be the ultimate owner of the overpass. Both Lakewood Ranch and the County hope to design and build the project as quickly as possible.
The development of this corridor is important to the overall transportation network. FDOT is letting the University Parkway interchange project in the near future, but with construction of the University Town Center to the west of I-75 (off of University Parkway), traffic will be congested. This overpass to the south of the mall will provide a vital link that bypasses University Parkway and provides connectivity to Fruitville Road.
KCA was approached on November 26, 2014 to turnover a fast-paced proposal including our estimated fee. Our team was to remain confidential and deliver our proposal within six days (these six days included two holidays and a weekend). Everyone gave up their time off and the output was outstanding! Special thanks to all that helped with the preparation of this proposal and the marketing efforts that contributed to this win especially Mike Campo, PE, Project Manager; Tom Shaw, PE, Structures; Rachel Moyers, EI, Roadway/Graphics; Mark Easley, Environmental; Tracey Sansone, Marketing; and Paul Foley, PE, Senior Technical Advisor! Congrats to the entire project team!
