Owner: Polk County
KCA Selected to Design New Inwood Multi-Use Path for Polk County!
KCA received great news on October 11 when it was selected by Polk County to design the Inwood Multi-Use Path project in Winter Haven, FL. The win signifies KCA’s first multi-use path design project for the County and adds yet another design project to KCA’s already impressive shared-use path project experience resume.
The improvement project involves design of a 10-foot-wide, approximately 1-mile, asphalt shared-use path from Avenue S NW to W Lake Cannon Drive NW in the Inwood Community of Winter Haven. Design will also include two new Citrus Connection transit shelters with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements and bicycle racks, wayfinding and mile-marker signage, decorative light fixtures, waste containers, and benches. The project also includes design of a 5-foot-wide sidewalk within Lake Cannon Park for approximately 0.3 miles. The goals of the project are to provide County transportation network connectivity for Inwood Community pedestrians and bicyclists, access to transit, minimize impacts to existing drainage, provide a safe route to school for students and safe access to the park, and improved pedestrian and bicyclist safety in the area.
KCA is teaming with Madrid Engineering Group to provide geotechnical support, CivilSurv to provide surveying and mapping, Omni Communications to provide survey and subsurface utility engineering (SUE) support, and KCCS to provide constructability and bidability reviews.
The KCA team is led by Project Manager (PM), Richard Harrison, PE, who has 36 years of specialized engineering experience in roadway design and construction engineering and inspection (CEI). He was assigned to KCA’s Roadway Department in 1986. His responsibilities increased with each design assignment from design technician to roadway engineer. Mr. Harrison currently designs projects in addition to serving as KCA’s QA Manager. He has served as Project Manager and Roadway EOR for several FDOT and local municipality projects. Mr. Harrison is supported by Deputy PM, Alfredo Cely, PE, who has 14 years of experience in project management experience includes highway construction, reconstruction and resurfacing, land development of aviation, residential, and commercial projects, and development of master regional drainage plans. KCA has served clients throughout Florida since 1976 and its corporate headquarters are located in the heart of Downtown Tampa.
Congratulations to the pursuit team including Richard Harrison, PE; Alfredo Cely, PE; Tara Spieler, PE; and Robert Whitman, Jr. A big thanks to all that helped with the preparation of the proposal, presentation, and the marketing efforts that contributed to this win!
