KCA was recently selected for the FDOT District Two SR 21/Blanding Boulevard Add Lanes and Reconstruct (CR 220/Bay Road to Allie Murray Road)/SR 21/Blanding Boulevard Add Lanes and Reconstruct (CR 218 to Black Creek) contract. This $5 million CEI contract consists of a grouping of two projects that include widening/reconstruction of SR 21 (Blanding Blvd.) from Black Creek to south of Allie Murray Rd. and widening and resurfacing SR 21 from CR 218 to Black Creek.

  • SR 21 Add Lanes and Reconstruct (208211-8): This 1.779-mile-long project consists of widening/reconstructing SR 21 from a 4-lane divided roadway to a 6-lane divided roadway with 4-foot-wide bicycle lanes and 6-foot-wide sidewalks. The project will realign/reconstruct the CR 220 at SR 21 intersection and the unwieldy intersection of Long Bay Road and Lazy Acres Road at SR 21. These intersections will also become fully signalized for vehicles and pedestrians. The project also includes regular and subsoil excavation, stabilization, optional base, structural and friction course asphalt, utility adjustments, temporary barrier wall, curb and gutter, concrete traffic separators, concrete ditch pavement, rubble riprap, fencing, signing, thermoplastic pavement markings (standard and preformed), permanent tape, and performance turf. The project has a planned let date of 10/17/18 with a duration of 800 days.
  • SR 21 Add Lanes and Reconstruct (208211-5): This 1.180-mile-long project consists of milling and resurfacing and widening SR 21 from a 4-lane divided roadway to a 6-lane divided roadway as well as the reconstruction of CR 218 east of SR 21. This reconstruction will involve replacing the existing CR 218 bridge over the south fork of Black Creek (Br. No. 710045). The Typical Section for the 282-foot-long, 92-foot-wide, three-span replacement bridge (Br. No. 714066) consists of four 12-foot travel lanes with a 15.5-foot traffic separator, 5-foot bike lanes, and 6.5-foot raised sidewalks. Two new ponds will be constructed to accommodate the new stormwater management system, and the project will receive updated vehicular and pedestrian signalization at the CR 218, Parsonage Street, Everett Avenue, and Palmetto Street intersections. The project duration is 600 days with an anticipated let date of 9/18/19.
