KCA was recently selected by FDOT District Three to provide capacity improvements to SR 22 including widening the roadway from two to four lanes from SR 30 (US 98B) to CR 2315 (Star Avenue) in Bay County. The typical section will be urban with a 22-foot wide median, bicycle lanes, and sidewalk on each side of the roadway. KCA will design a one-lane flyover structure at the intersection of SR 22 and SR 30 (US 98A/Tyndall Parkway) for the southbound to eastbound left turning movement.
Six signalized intersections and mast arms will be reconstructed where impacted by the widening operation. KCA will also reconstruct pedestrian detectors and signal heads to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access requirements. Our team will evaluate and redesign each signalized intersection as needed to include additional turn lanes.
KCA will design the widening of the Bay Line Railroad crossing at CMP 0.155 to accommodate the roadway expansion.
There are four box culverts and one bridge culvert (Bridge No. 460062) that KCA will extend to accommodate the widening. Our design will provide a closed drainage system with ponds.
Additionally, the KCA team will provide right-of-way mapping, traffic analysis, access management, temporary traffic control, pond siting, permitting, environmental (protected species and wetlands), public involvement, utility coordination, stakeholder coordination, and signing and pavement marking.
The project will be challenging since the roadway footprint takes up most of the right-of-way. There are numerous utilities to accommodate and 199 sidestreets and driveways.
This was an important win for KCA as it was the first project from FDOT District Three in recent years. Thanks to all who pitched in to help with this win.
