KCA wins Winston-Salem Northern Beltway Eastern Section CEI Contract for NCDOT
KCA was recently awarded the contract to perform CEI services for the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway Eastern Section (U-2579AB) construction project for NCDOT Division 9. It is one of the largest CEI projects KCA has ever won with a construction cost of more than $200 million.
The scope of this project consists of providing CEI services for the new construction of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway Eastern Section (future I-74) from I-40 to I-40 Business/US 421 in Winston-Salem. This “new location” project includes the widening and extension of I-74 as part of the $1.74 billion, 34.5-mile Winston-Salem Northern Beltway loop around the northern part of the city in Forsyth County. Construction of U-2579AB is scheduled to let in December with work beginning Spring 2022.
The KCA team was selected for its understanding of the complexity of management of CEI contracts involving complicated utility conflicts, complex phasing and MOT on high-speed interstate facilities, curved steel girder bridges with phased construction, widening of concrete paving on interstate facilities, and ITS components including interconnected signals, dynamic message signs, cameras, fiber-optic cable, and associated infrastructure. KCA has a proven track record of managing similar projects across North Carolina and Florida.
The KCA team also includes DRMP, Inc.; Summit Design and Engineering Services, PLLC; and Volkert, Inc., as subconsultants providing key CEI inspection and construction management support.
Leading KCA’s proposed team is Head Project Inspector, James Meachum. With 32 years of extensive experience on NCDOT CEI projects, he is supported by Project Manager (PM) and Division 9 Liaison, Keith Raulston, PE, who will direct team staff and provide reliable quality oversight and problem solving for Division 9. Lead Roadway Inspector, Hal Stultz Jr. (Summit), and Lead Structures Inspector, Allen Horton (Volkert), also have many years of experience in all phases of highway construction including vast experience inspecting and managing major interstate, D/B, and complex phased construction of roadway and bridge projects.
Congratulations to the pursuit team including Gerald Hilton; Davis Diggs, PE; Keith Raulston, PE; James Meachum; Hal Stultz Jr.; Allen Horton; and Dewey Martin, PE. A big thanks to all that helped with the preparation of the letter of response and the marketing efforts that contributed to this win!
