The objective of the evaluation and PD&E Study was to provide documented information necessary for Hillsborough County to reach and support a decision for the future of the Platt Street (Channelside) Bridge. Bridge No. 105500, located on Platt Street over the Hillsborough River, was built in 1926. The structure consists of seven reinforced concrete girder approach spans and a steel girder double leaf bascule span. The functional classification for Platt Street is Urban Minor Arterial. The roadway carries four 10-foot eastbound lanes and has sidewalks on both sides. The double leaf bascule span is opened to river traffic on an average of 30 times per month. The structure is functionally obsolete and contained fracture critical components. The overall National Bridge Inventory (NBI) ratings were as follows: Deck: 6 Satisfactory, Superstructure: 6 Satisfactory, Substructure: 6 Satisfactory, Channel: 7 Minor Damage, Sufficiency Rating: 60.4.

KCA’s duties include the traffic operations study necessary to determine the traffic control plan and signal modifications as well as preliminary design of the roadway approaches, traffic control plan, and signalization.
