Lee & Collier County Signal Re-timing

KCA was tasked with retiming 31 traffic signals to help improve intersection delays and travel times along 4 major arterial corridors in northern Collier County, FL: Immokalee Rd, Collier Blvd, Livingston Rd, and Goodlette-Frank Blvd. The largest control section included 22 intersections. KCA was also tasked with retiming 19 traffic signals along 2 major arterial corridors in central and southern Lee County: Daniels Parkway and Bonita Beach Road. As part of the studies, KCA has collected field inventory data, traffic counts, travel time measurements, and existing signal timings. Collection of traffic counts includes weekday and weekend turning movement counts at each signalized intersection along the corridors. Existing traffic simulation models have been built using Synchro and Thru-Traffic. The Synchro model is used to establish existing intersection and arterial segment level of service (LOS), delays, queues, and travel times based on the current timing plans. The cycle length, timing splits, and offsets of each intersection were optimized in order to generate the lowest possible corridor travel times while still allowing the intersections to operate at their desired LOS. KCA was able to lower intersection delay times by an average of about 15%, while travel times along the mainline arterial roads were lowered by an average of 10%, with some roads experiencing a travel time reduction of almost 20%.
